BURDEKIN SHINES ON SPORT STAGE

- SATRIA DYER-DARMAWAN

BURDEKIN has shown yet again it is home to some of the brightest sporting prospects in North Queensland, with Deni Caspanello taking out the NQ Football Coach of the Year and Jeremy Dal Santo named as NQ Football Men’s Player of the Year.

Dal Santo (pictured), Club Captain of the Burdekin Panthers Premier squad, said it was great to be named North Queensland Football Men’s Player of the year.

“It’s a great feeling. It is a really big honour. I wasn’t expecting to take out this award and to be nominated with a few of the other boys, they are excellent players as well,” Dal Santo said.

Dal Santo, a versatile midfielder, played in an attacking role, but then moved into a defensive position after a change in formation.

“We changed our formation to try different things and we ended up sticking to something that worked and we only missed out on finals by three points.”

Dal Santo said he was thankful for his teammates in helping him win the award.

“They’re a great bunch of blokes, they make my job easier and I try to make their job easier, we had chemistry in the team,” he said.

Caspanello, who coaches in the Women’s Premier League, helped to guide the Townsville Warriors into a second place position, but was ultimately defeated in the finals.
