C BAR DINES OUT ON INDUSTRY AWARDS

- TONY RAGGATT

THE popular C Bar restaurant on The Strand is the toast of the town after taking out two gongs in the prestigious Restaurant and Caterers Association’s Awards for Excellence.

It was joined on the winner’s podium by Townsville’s Bridgewater restaurant and the Cowboys Leagues

Club’s Match Restaurant & Grill in the North Queensland and Northern Territory section of the 2021 awards.

The C Bar won the Breakfast Restaurant North Queensland and Cafe Dining categories.

The restaurant’s owner Allan Pike praised his staff, particularly manager Samantha Young and head chef Peter Bailey, for doing a “fantastic job”.

Mr Pike said the awards, selected through anonymous judging of criteria, such as cleanliness of staff and amenities, quality of food and knowledge of staff, were the pinnacle of industry achievement.

“Just having been named as a finalist is a big thing. To win is something special,” Mr Pike said.

The fact that it came after a period of turmoil and restrictions because of Covid-19, including having to close for a week earlier this month after being named as an exposure site, made it that much more special, he said.

The Bridgewater restaurant won the Contemporary Australian Restaurant – Formal category, while Match Restaurant & Grill took out the award for Restaurant in a Pub/club.
