Murder accused to stay locked up
THE driver charged with the murder of an aspiring Townsville police officer will remain in custody until December, a court has heard.
Christopher Michael Hughes, 26, is accused of being the driver of a Holden Statesman involved in a devastating crash on February 5 this year.
Twenty-two-year-old Jennifer Board was riding her motorbike on Ross River Rd when she was fatally hit by a Holden Statesman, allegedly driven by Hughes.
It is alleged Hughes had been dangerously pursuing a stolen car, and lost control after rear-ending it, before veering to the opposite side of the road and striking Board on her motorbike.
Hughes has been in custody since February.
In Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday, Hughes’s matter was listed for committal mention in December by magistrate Steven Mosch.
Hughes did not appear in court, and is not required to appear at his next mention.
His matter will next be heard on December 2.
An 18-year-old man, Gregory Clubb, is alleged to be the driver of the stolen Hyundai.
Clubb faces unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary, dangerous operation of a vehicle and attempted burglary charges.
