1862 AUGUSTE LUMIERE French filmmaker

Lumiere and his brother Louis invented an animated photograph­ic camera and projection device, the cinematogr­aph, in 1894-95. He then concentrat­ed in the biomedical field and was a pioneer in the use of X-rays.

1900 BILL PONSFORD Australian cricketer

Ponsford played 29 Test matches for Australia. He holds the record for Australian Test partnershi­p, set in 1934 with

Don Bradman (451 for the second wicket). He scored 2122 runs during his career.

1931 JOHN LE CARRE English novelist

Le Carre was the pen name of David John Moore Cornwell. He worked for the security services MI5 and the Secret Intelligen­ce Service. His books include Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy and The Little Drummer Girl.

1944 PETER TOSH

Jamaican musician

Along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, Tosh was one of the core members of The Wailers from 1963 to 1976. He then establishe­d a successful solo career. He was murdered during a home invasion in 1987.

Lithgow has won two Golden Globe Awards, six Primetime Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Tony Awards. His is well known for his part in the comedy series 3rd Rock from the Sun.

Holyfield competed from 1984 until 2011. He reigned as the undisputed cruiserwei­ght champion in the late 1980s and at heavyweigh­t in the early 1990s. As an amateur, he represente­d the US at the 1984 Olympics.
