Heat’s on in Versatility

- LEE PEARCE

THERE will be plenty of greyhounds aiming to break through to the next level when the heats of the Versatility 4/5th grade series are run at the Townsville Showgrounds on Tuesday.

The series, which is raced over 380m, showcases the best emerging talent and will feature four heats on the one night at Townsville Showgrounds.

The main standouts in the opening heat are Midnight Frankie (3) for Brad Belford and Big Pikachu (5) for Paul Smith.

Midnight Frankie has been having a good run over the 498m and is dropping in distance. He has had nine starts for two wins and BT 21.96.

Big Pikachu is ultra-consistent here having had 45 starts for seven wins and BT 21.86.

Turn The Key (4) for Rhonda Essery has been racing over mixed distances. He has had 19 starts for two wins and BT 22.09, and will be a place chance.

In the second heat, there is Captain Turbot (8) for John La Rosa. He won his last start from the same draw and should run another bold race.

Jungle Fever (3) for Graham Thomson has picked up a win and a third at his past two runs.

He has had nine starts for two wins and BT 21.90 and possesses each-way claims.

Rumble Rose (1) for Brad Belford has drawn well, close to the rails, but her form is indifferent.

The third heat is possibly the best of the night with a number of chances.

In A Sling (3) for Robert Lound won here on Friday and is backing up looking for two straight. Only a fair beginner, he hits the ground full of running and has a strong run home.

Bye Clown Town (4) for Heath Ardle has been placed in her past two starts after a short let-up. She has had nine starts for four wins and BT 21.67.

Supido (2) for Andrew Wooler is a very consistent girl and she should run another bold race.

The final heat will feature Lost In Lantana (3) for Carol Pickard, who should continue with her good run. She can begin well on her night and has a solid run home. She has had five starts for three wins and BT 21.83.

Zipping Coby (8) for Robert Lound is dropping back in distance. He should be suited by the wide draw with plenty of room to move and has BT 21.87.

Wink At Me (1) for Brad Belford returns to Townsville after a mixed campaign in NSW, so watch the market.

Kennelling closes at 6.10pm and the first race is at 6.55pm.
