Mccarron smashes his way to top

- ANTONY STEWART SMASHIN’ BOUNDARIES

THERE are good days and then there are what Norths’ Beau Mccarron experienced on Saturday.

The 13-year-old all-rounder could be forgiven for still pinching himself after he produced a 6-0 bowling spell that’s unlikely to be forgotten in the Townsville Junior Cricket for many years.

What made it all the more incredible was that when thrown the ball, the game was in the balance.

After Norths’ under-15s were bowled out for just 99, Charters Towers were well positioned for victory as James Geeves’ 20 took the home team to 4-62.

E n t e r M c C a r r o n , who was unplayable.

He bowled three rivals and trapped two LBW before a Jaecob Prien catch completed an incredible collapse in which the Towers lost 6-1 inside seven overs to lose the game.

Mccarron’s 3.5 overs, three maidens for 6-0 were unbelievably not his best figures.

It marked the start of a strong weekend for Norths’ juniors. The club won four of six games which left them sitting on top of the ladders in under-13 blue, under-13 gold and under-17 divisions.

But it wasn’t just about the boys and girls in red.

Brandon Hamilton-kurila showed his all-round abilities when he blasted an unbeaten 59 off 48 balls as he and Thomas Stark (50 not out) guided Wests’ under-15s to victory before his 4-14 off seven overs helped the Magpies’ under-17s surge to a win over Wanderers.

He wasn’t the only hero in the under-17s. Ben Ramsbotham’s 75 was pivotal in the team’s 134 total. No other batter reached double figures.
