Fake cash find ends in court

- KATIE HALL

A MAN caught with $100 of fake money told police he’d received the notes as change from a service station.

Pleading guilty to a charge of possessing counterfeit money, Steele Rad Briskey, 28 was searched by police at a Bushland Beach home on September 17.

Police prosecutor Mark Fenlon said two $50 notes printed on paper were found in Briskey’s wallet.

“I thought they looked a bit funny when I got them,” Briskey told police before claiming to have received them as change.

His lawyer said Briskey worked as a concreter in his parents’ business, and was a “lovely man,” but said it wasn’t the most “sophisticated” offence.

They said Briskey should have realised the fact they were fake after he said they looked “funny”. Magistrate Ken Taylor ordered Briskey pay a $400 fine, and recorded a conviction. The notes were forfeited to police.
