Bloods taken from cop after accident
POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a horror crash involving a Townsville police officer.
Sergeant Bradley Greenland, 59, is the subject of an investigation after he crashed his Ford Focus near Ingham on Saturday morning.
The Townsville Bulletin understands bloods were taken from Sergeant Greenland on Wednesday as crews investigate whether he was drink-driving. Townsville District Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said the matter would be thoroughly investigated but declined to comment further.
Ingham Police officer-incharge Senior Sergeant Geoff Bormann said crews were called to the crash about 2.50am on Saturday.
Sergeant Bormann said the vehicle left the road and hit a guard rail, causing extensive damage. Sergeant Greenland was taken to Ingham
Hospital with injuries to his back and neck.
It is understood routine bloods were taken on Wednesday.
No charges have been laid, but an investigation is under way.
Photos of the car wreck show the small sedan mangled by the roadside near Christies Rd and the Bruce Highway, narrowly avoiding rolling down into a creek.
The guard rail was wrapped around the far side
of the vehicle, and the bonnet of the car had flipped into the windscreen.
The front of the car was almost unrecognisable, with wires and car parts strewn nearby.
The scene was taped off with police tape.
Superintendent Hanlon said the crash would be thoroughly investigated.
“As the matter remains under investigation, we are unable to provide anything further at this stage.”
