Blue-green algae issue
TOWNSVILLE City Council is reminding the community of the potential for a blue-green algae outbreak in the Ross River Dam this summer, which will impact the city’s water supply. The council has implemented a number of initiatives to minimise the risk of algal blooms in the dam.
This includes installing aerators, construction of new clarifiers, and more to help address the impact blue-green algae could have on the dam.
Mayor Jenny Hill said the council had been working with industry experts on the management of blue-green algae and had developed a management plan.
