Charters Towers centre revamp to offer upgraded services

-

CHARTERS Towers residents will have improved access to Centrelink and Medicare services, when the Services Australia Service Centre in Hodgkinson St undergoes a transformation in October.

Government Services Minister Senator Linda Reynolds said the service centre would be given a fresh look and feel, with upgraded self-service facilities and digital support.

“The Australian government is committed to making service delivery simple and accessible for all Australians,” Senator Reynolds said.

“These improvements to the Charters Towers Service Centre will make it easier for customers to access the government services they need.

“They will be offered a range of service options, including support to access the digital channels, face-to-face customer interviews, and referrals to specialists or other government services.

“Charters Towers customers will also be able tell Services Australia what they think of the new service centre, as staff will be seeking feedback about their experience.”

Queensland LNP Senator Susan Mcdonald said the refurbishment was great news for the Charters Towers community.

“It will provide the community with state-of-the-art government services in a welcoming environment,” Senator Mcdonald said.

“All customers are welcome to visit the site to access government services, and locals will be able to book appointments to speak to a staff member face-to-face about

Centrelink services.

“People in regional centres really value being able to speak to someone in person, so it’s terrific this service is still being provided.

“To book an appointment, customers can call their regular payment line, or visit the service centre and return at a time that suits them.”

There will be no gap in services for the Charters Towers community, with refurbishment works occurring outside of business hours.

The Charters Towers Service Centre, located at 31 Hodgkinson St, will continue serving the community from Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
