Hunt: My kids were in danger
GREG Hunt has broken down after revealing his children were subjected to death threats during his time in public office.
The Health Minister’s revelation came in Canberra on Wednesday when he was asked about comments by Northern Territory leader Michael Gunner this week about relocating his family due to threats from anti-vaccination protesters.
Mr Hunt (pictured) said he “unequivocally” condemned the actions of the a n t i - v a c c i - nation protesters before breaking down in tears with his own admission.
“I’ve never really talked about it,” he said before his voice wavered. “There was a period where the lives of my children were threatened quite openly some years ago.”
Mr Hunt said it was important Australians respected the work of parliamentarians, even if their views did not align.
“To those that think violence or the threat of violence is acceptable … it is not,” Mr Hunt said.
Mr Hunt’s admission followed several MPS raising concern about their security in the wake of the stabbing death of UK Conservative MP Sir David Amess last week.
