Kids take lift for joy ride

- SHAYLA BULLOCH

TWO boys who stole a scissor lift and took it on a joy ride through a Townsville street have been released on bail.

The 12-year-old and 13year-old boys were arrested on Tuesday night after stealing the motorised piece of machinery from a business on Greg Jabbs Dr about 11pm.

A motorist spotted the boys driving the lift down the street and called police.

They were arrested along Bayswater Rd, and taken to the watch house.

Both were charged with one count each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and entering a premise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Townsville District Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said the boys had limited criminal history, and were released on police bail.

Superintendent Hanlon was baffled by the brazen act.

“Why is a 12 and 13-year-old stealing a scissor lift, that’s concerning for us,” he said.

“The randomness of it, and the fact there’s no real logic behind it is the concerning thing.” They will face court at a later date.
