Gloves are off as Warriors duo wage ‘war’
THEY are the two Warriors keepers who have kept a season-long tally in a battle to be the best.
But it is not just the goals they saved that have been put on the scoresheet.
Warriors under-14/15 duo Josh Fraser and Blake Koitka have shared the gloves throughout the season, but both have also proven themselves as capable outfield players for their side.
They are so capable without the gloves that the pair have taken a tally of the goals they have scored at the other end of the field.
“They are both very capable players out in the field, they can play in multiple positions” Warriors coach Jason Smart said.
“Those two lads have had a competition between themselves all year, but it’s not limited to how many goals each has conceded.”
The pair will again take a half each between the sticks in this week’s Crad Evans Shield clash with Stratford Dolphins.
It will be a big commitment from Fraser, who recently relocated to Brisbane to take up a scholarship opportunity.
Not one to be outdone by his teammate, it is understood Koitka has also trialled in front of scouts in the southeast.
“Our keepers are definitely one of our big advantages going into a game,” Smart said. “Our for and against was pretty good for the season and a lot of that comes down to their ability and our strength in the backline.”
Warriors finished the Football Queensland North season undefeated with a goal difference of +46.
