Private Max steers clear of ‘fake’ tell-all Netflix series
MAX Verstappen has refused to take part in this season’s Netflix documentary on F1 as he believes the producers have faked storylines.
‘Drive to Survive’ has proved to be very popular with race fans and has helped attract a new audience to the sport, particularly in America, which is a key market for audience growth for F1. It shows what goes on behind the scenes, including rivalries between drivers and gives a better look at the team principals.
Mercedes and Ferrari were reluc
tant to take part in the first season, but when it became clear how popular the show was, they gave access to the cameras. The fourth series is being filmed this season, to be released next year, so will no doubt follow the rivalry between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, who have been separated by only a few points for most of the season.
Verstappen said when he participated in interviews in earlier seasons, the quotes were later applied to situations he was not discussing and “they would fake a lot of stuff”.
“They faked a few rivalries which don’t really exist,” he said. “So I decided to not be a part of it and did not give any more interviews after that.”
