Nothing secret about team’s biggest weapon in Festival of 7s

- NICK WRIGHT

THEY have played alongside each other throughout their junior days, but now the boys of Victorious Secret are taking their first steps into the senior ranks.

Fresh off their under-18s triumph last year in the Townsville Festival of 7s, Finn Andreassen and his teammates are braced for far more physical and daunting prospects when the action kicks off this morning.

But having played alongside each other since they were in under-10s, Andreassen said that bond could be their greatest weapon.

“A lot of us went to school together and played club together. It’s a game where you make mates pretty easy and if you stick to the right sport and the right team you sort of create bonds that can carry through for the rest of your life,” he said.

“That’s what sport is about, making mates that you hang with forever.

You create those bonds, and I’d say this won’t be the last year we play.”

While Andreassen and his side are determined to make inroads in their maiden men’s campaign, across enemy lines there will be a family member eagerly awaiting their match up. Andreassen’s brother Jack will be lining up for a formidable Minions outfit, one that features former Australian gun Sam Warner.

Andreassen said after playing alongside his brother for so long, he expected a host of aggressive hits to be headed down his channel.

“It will be quite exciting to come up against him. I know he’ll want to put some big hits on me,” he said.

“I wouldn’t say nerves would be the problem, we’ll definitely be having more fun I guess coming up against bigger and better bodies.

“Obviously if you run at the wrong bloke you come off second best, but the challenge is what the boys are looking forward to.”
