Monsoons book spot in decider
NORTH Queensland are off to the Gabba once again, after claiming the Bulls Masters T20 Country Challenge in Cairns.
The Monsoons, inspired by Townsville’s leading batsman Craig Mcelligott, triumphed over their rivals to book a spot in the Brisbanebased final.
In their semi-final against the Far North Fusion, however, it was all-rounder Mitchell Burton who guided the way.
Burton cast aside a shaky start to the competition, finishing with figures of 3/18 and chipping in with a blistering 29 off 14 balls as North Queensland triumphed by three wickets in pursuit of the Far North’s 7/162. Mcelligott top scored with 47 in the clash, taking his tournament tally to 135 runs from three innings at an average of 56.
In the under-21s, the Monsoons were again emphatic, with Jonte Grazioli’s brilliant 4/7 from four overs causing a Far North capitulation – all out for just 46.
