RUNNERS READY FOR REVENGE

- EVAN MORGAN

THE second round of the Mike Carney Toyota Trail Run series takes place this Sunday at the Bowling Green Bay National Park at Alligator Creek.

The Elliot’s Revenge Trail Run aims to satisfy any runner’s adventurous spirit with some challenging

trails complete with refreshing creek crossings.

Outer Limits Adventure Fitness owner and manager Aline Herzog said they were expecting more than 400 runners, competing over 6km, 12km and 21km trails.

She said the favourite part of this annual race was the creek crossings.

“It is refreshing – it keeps you

nice and cool and it is something you don’t often get to do on many trails,” she said. “The course is not too challenging and it is one of the races that is more suited for beginners, and there are not too many technical trail sections, especially in the shorter distances.

“The wildlife is also very different and some of the frontrunners may

get the chance to spot a brumby.” With the day use area at the park closed this year due to construction, the start and finish of the race is at Melville’s Entertainment at 45 Alligator Creek Rd.

The first event is the 21km race with a 6.15am sign-in and race start at 7am, followed by a staggered start for the 12km and 6km races.

There will be prizes for the first three runners in each distance.

Registration for the event closes at 12pm on Saturday.
