ALBO’S THE SPY WHO CAME IN WITH A COLD

- CLARE ARMSTRONG

MOVE over Kevin 07, Labor’s current leader Anthony Albanese is bringing the 007 vibes with a moody noir photo shoot for a magazine profile dropping this week.

Mr Albanese, who has been off the campaign trail battling Covid-19 for the past week, has a candid discussion with 2021 Australian of the Year Grace Tame for the Instyle cover feature, but it’s the accompanying pictures that have grabbed the public’s attention.

The images could be straight out of a James Bond-esque spy epic.

Mr Albanese broods in his trendy coat with the collar popped, as shards of light artfully illuminate his face in the black and white photos.

One Labor MP said “not every politician could pull off” such a

“fashion forward” look, adding at least it was “unlikely to hurt” the party’s election chances.

Another Labor source said the photos had “got people talking about Albo,” which they conceded had been “half the battle” on the campaign so far.

In the interview Ms Tame put it to Mr Albanese she didn’t believe characterisations of him as a “man of mystery” were fair given he had been in public life for so long.

The Labor leader agreed, but from this photo shoot perhaps he has potential for a career in espionage after all.

Depending on what happens come election day, Ms Tame suggested Albo could look at a career-change.

“You’ve got a modelling career ahead of you, Albo,” she said at the end of the chat, to which he responded: “Yeah, I don’t know about that, but it was a bit of fun.”

The article also including a 15song playlist of DJ Albo’s fave tunes.
