Man arrested, charged following attempted rape of nurse
A MAN has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a nurse at Townsville University Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A 35-year-old Mornington man has been charged over the violent incident that also saw him allegedly attempt to rob another woman in the hospital carpark.
In a statement police said they would allege the man’s offending took place about 4am on Sunday, May 1.
“It is alleged the man approached a 50-year-old woman in the Discovery Drive facility’s carpark at approximately 4am, allegedly grabbing her arm and demanding money before running away on foot,” the statement read.
“It will be further alleged the man entered and assaulted a 31-year-old woman inside the facility at approximately 4.15am, before running away on foot.
“The Mornington man was arrested a short time later at a nearby shopping centre.
“Both women were not physically injured.”
The 35-year-old man has been charged with enter premise with intent to commit indictable offence, assault with intent to rape, and attempted robbery in relation to two alleged incidents at a
Douglas health facility. The man was refused bail and is expected to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on June 27.
Townsville Hospital and Health Service chief executive Kieran Keyes said the hospital was supporting the
staff involved in the incident. “I can confirm a serious incident has occurred at Townsville University Hospital involving a member of the public gaining unauthorised access to the hospital,” he said.
“The person involved is in
custody and will be remanded until charges are processed.
“As this is now a current police matter, we are unable to provide any further comment.
“Staff involved in the incident are being supported by the hospital.”
