SHOW YOUR MOTHER HOW MUCH YOU CARE

-

IT can be something small like a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers to something bigger like a special dinner out with the family. But today is your last chance to organise whatever it is you’re planning for Mother’s Day tomorrow.

If the budget won’t stretch too far, there are other ways to show how much you care that include simply giving mum a full day off around the house and waiting on her hand and foot.

She deserves it, and while it’s nice to mark the day on a calendar to celebrate mothers the world over, there’s nothing to stop any of us in using the occasion to reflect on how much we do for our mums to express our love all year round.

New Townsville mum Jamie Hume will enjoy her first Mother’s Day tomorrow following the arrival of baby Heidi after two years of trying to conceive with husband Adam.

“It’s just surreal, it hasn’t really sunk in yet. We’re just happy that she’s finally here – and just in time for Mother’s Day,” Jamie said.

“She’s got perfect timing.”

Jamie, a theatre nurse at Mater Mothers’ Private Townsville, has been helping families throughout her career, and her own delivery was not without complications that necessitated a caesarean procedure.

“I finally know what it feels like to be a mum. The staff went above and beyond, they made us feel really special while they were taking care of us,” Jamie said.

It’s stories like these that remind us of what mothers go through to bring us into the world.

It truly is an act of love and bravery but it doesn’t end when the umbilical cord is cut.

Our mums are there to nurture, feed, protect, shelter, educate, encourage, defend and just love us.

The very least we can do this Mother’s Day is repay some of that love by showing we appreciate everything she has already done for us.
