New playground to provide hours of fun for kids

-

A NEW state-of-the-art playground has opened at Bluewater Park, giving kids a fresh spot to run amok.

The playground has two climbing towers, a flying fox, climbing ropes, swings, soft-fall flooring, three slides and a carousel.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the new equipment was a big boost for Bluewater Park users.

“This playground upgrade is the result of close consultation between council and the community about what they wanted to see in the park,” Ms Hill said.

“Bluewater Park is a popular day spot and rest area for residents and visitors and the right infrastructure must be in place to meet users’ needs.

“This is one of the 320 parks and open spaces council looks after, and we know how important they are for helping residents maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and helping children with their development. “Through the Have Your Say surveys and one-to-one consultations, council has been able to deliver a playground that suits the needs of nearby residents and visitors to the park.”

The council received $247,000 to install the new playground and $343,000 to upgrade the oval’s irrigation system from the Australian government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
