Cost of living key for Herbert voters
COST of living, raising the minimum wage and increasing funding for TAFE are three things voters in Herbert can agree on.
A survey conducted by the Townsville Bulletin asked what key issues voters believed needed to be addressed.
Of the people who completed the survey, more than half believed reducing food and petrol prices was the most important.
Others felt more affordable housing was key, while a handful picked other options including an increase to daycare and childcare support and growing the local sustainable economy.
People were torn on Covid-19 recovery and vaccine mandates, with some calling for health protections against Covid to say, while others wanted economic recovery. When it came to the skilled worker shortage, which is impacting North Queensland significantly, people wanted the focus to be increasing funding for TAFE.
Some felt it was right to introduce more skilled workers, holiday worker and agricultural worker visas, but others felt the focus should be on increasing base hourly rates for hospitality, tourism and seasonal farm workers.
Of the people who voted in the poll, only six people said Scott Morrison was the preferred prime minister, and only three people had trust in politics.
