THE former Townsville home of retired NRL great Johnathan Thurston is under offer, with the property snapped up by interstate buyers.

The chic property, which was bought by former North Queensland and Cowboys captain in Thurston and d wife Samantha a for $1,221,600 in n 2013, was listed d for sale by expresessions of interest t on March 29.

Its listing came me after the couple bought a nearby residence for $4.5m last September.

That property was once

home to two other sporting legends – golfing superstar Greg Norman and Olympic swimming bronze medallist Glenn Buchanan.

It was purchased from Pickerings Auto Group managing director Brendan Pickering and his wife Angelique, Ang who did di a complete renovation r and extension e of the t residence. The sale set a record for the beachside beac suburb, with property pro records showing that the Thurstons also snapped up a nearby property in December.

The couple’s former Rowes Bay house was mar

keted and sold by Glenn Bower, principal of North Ward Realty.

During the sales campaign Mr Bower said the waterfront property garnered plenty of interest from local and interstate buyers in Sydney and Melbourne.

On an 805sq m block with stunning water views, the sixbedroom residence is spread over two levels, with the lower level home to a light and bright modern kitchen that flows out to the dining and family area and patio.

Also on this floor is a bedroom, study, bathroom and laundry.

Upstairs there is a formal lounge area that flows out to another deck that has stun

ning views across the water over Rowes es Bay, Magnetic ic Island and nd Cape Cleveeland. There re are also three ee b e d r o o m s plus a master er retreat with th an ensuite, te, w a l k - i n w a r d r o b e / dressing room and d more water views.

Outside there is a guest retreat with a kitchenette, ensuite and walk-in wardrobe, and a “child’s wonderland”, complete with a playground, Astro-turfed areas, shade cloth and an established garden. There is also a resort-style pool, Crimsafe saf screens and a solar s system. Mr Bower said sai a similar property pr with water wa views in Sydney Sy cost up to $15m, so To T o w n s v i l l e ’ s w a t e r f r o n t properties pr offered fer exceptional ti l bang for buck. b

Mr Bower remained tightlipped on the sales price but said the purchasers were “delighted” and the vendors “happy” with the result. “They (the new owners) are moving from interstate but have been coming to Townsville for many years,” he said.
