Heading back to the ‘80s

School showpiece returns to its roots as Pimlico Presents turns 40

- GINA MOSCH

TOWNSVILLE’S next generation of superstars are preparing to take to the stage as school production season continues.

Four hundred Pimlico State High School students will tread the boards of the Townsville Civic Theatre for their annual show, Pimlico Presents, on Friday.

Pimlico Presents has been running since 1982, and is celebrating its 40th year by taking it back to where it all began and paying tribute to all things ’80s.

Prepare to be immersed in this vibrant era from the moment the curtain rises until the very end.

Think neon colours, shoulder pads, big hair and leg warmers and you have a taste of just some of what to expect from this year’s show.

It’s more than just a variety show – more than 400 students will showcase the very best of Pimlico’s extensive performing arts program.

Artistic director Shannyn Gilberd says she truly feels that the audience will be “blown away” by the professional standard of acts and cannot wait to see the show come together on stage.

“I feel incredibly lucky and privileged to have been asked to take on the role of directing such a fantastic show,” Ms Gilberd says.

“It’s unlike any other, as

you don’t often find such a diverse range of talents in one show. What makes Pimlico Presents unique is that the show is student-driven, the students come up with the acts, they audition the acts, rehearse like crazy for months and then they get to perform to the community of Townsville.”

Year 12 student Bailey Gould is excited for opening night.

“It’s so much fun to participate in and present to the Townsville community, my friends, my family and my peers.”

Fellow year 12 student Hannah Cameron says she’s ready to rock.

“It’s awesome and I can’t wait to rock out on stage with all my friends.”

Pimlico Presents is playing this Friday and Saturday night at the Townsville Civic Theatre. Tickets are available at the Ticketshop.
