Two freed as vehicle plummets into ravine

- CAMERON BATES

EMERGENCY services have responded to reports that a vehicle carrying two young adults has plunged down a ravine off the Bruce Highway north of Townsville.

Queensland Police Service confirmed they were at the scene of the single-vehicle accident at Eleanor Creek in Coolbie about halfway between Ingham and Townsville at 1.30pm on Tuesday.

A QPS spokeswoman said the vehicle carrying two occupants aged in their 20s had plummeted 30m into a creek embankment. That was later revised to 5m.

The spokeswoman said both occupants had been freed from the vehicle.

She said it was unclear if Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, which also responded to the incident, had to cut the victims free of the wreckage.

Queensland Ambulance Service said both patients were assessed at the scene and declined transport to hospital.

The Bruce Highway remained open.

Heavy rain had been lashing the area.
