To dye for: fury blooms over ‘painted’ flowers
WOOLWORTHS customers have fired up after discovering that the “fresh” flowers they bought over the Mother’s Day period had been “spray pray painted” pink.
Three furious shoppers took to social media to post photos of the bizarre blossoms, showing the paint in question on the leaves and stems of the supermarket-purchased flowers.
A Woolworths spokesperson said the “trend that has developed over the years” was a “common practice” on colour blooms.
“The use of bright-coloured dye or floral paints is a trend that has developed over the years and a standard practice for the floral industry worldwide, while we recognise they are not everyone’s cup of tea,” the spokesperson said.
“We source fresh cut flowers across Australia and overseas because we know custom customers love the convenience of being able to not only get their groceries but also pick up a bunch of flowers for that special occasion.
“The dye is non-toxic, nonirritating and is 100 per cent biodegradable.”
