Musk says he’ll re-tweet Trump

-

ANGELES: Entrepreneur Elon Musk has said he will reverse Twitter’s ban on Donald Trump after declaring that the social media platform has “a strong left-wing bias”.

Mr Musk, the world’s wealthiest man, has agreed a $Us44bn deal to buy Twitter and said the decision to permanently suspend the former president was “morally wrong” and “stupid”.

Mr Trump, 75, was kicked off the platform in January last year after his supporters stormed the US Capitol and he was accused of risking “further incitement to violence” with his tweets.

He has since founded his own website, Truth Social, and has said he is not interested in returning to Twitter, the platform on which he built his political career. However, Mr Musk looks set to test Mr Trump’s resolve after confirming that he would be welcomed back.

“I think it was a morally bad decision and foolish in the extreme,” the Tesla founder said.

“I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump. I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

Mr Musk acknowledged that his takeover of Twitter, which has faced scepticism on Wall Street, was “not yet a done deal”.
