WAR ON WOMEN

-

WITH the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in 2021, the lives of

Afghan females were changed forever.

In the US women’s rights to abortion are now in jeopardy, with the Supreme Court contemplating making abortion a crime in every state.

Any patriarchal culture where gender determines one’s rights and life outcomes, denies 51 per cent of the population, the right to thrive. Forced to stay at home, only permitted outside with a kindred male escort, completely covered with a burqa, employment discouraged, eyes covered, silenced, girls banned from education past Year 6 and total male control of women, prevents the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s chances of international recognition.

They believe it is the male’s right to control women.

Women’s health in the hands of this band of terrorists, who know nothing of social services, providing adequate food or medical services to the poor, creating employment and is subject to inhumane treatment both by police and the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.

More concerned for modifying women’s lives by threats and cruel punishment, the Taliban condemns females to lives of insignificance and silence.

International condemnation is ignored by these Taliban thugs, not bound by UN codes and human rights laws, which they define and discount as Western imperialism. Sharia Law was initially rooted in medieval religious texts, independent of the state.

The Taliban has politicised these, like the intended US Supreme Court abolition law, as the lawful cultural code of practice of women’s rights. Apparently, farmers are permitted by the Taliban to produce poppies, which finance the Taliban’s oppressive rule.

ELOISE ROWE, Tannum Sands.

Jenny Brown you have no clue what you’re talking about. Meatworks throughout Australia cannot get their maximum kill targets to capacity because of the lack of labour to process them. Thank god for live export I say, what would we do with the over supply of cattle in this country without live export. BONGO, BUSHLAND BEACH

The Burdekin Dam overflowing again as usual. What Tony Raggatt, TB May 12 failed to mention about a height extension is (A) it can only ever be raised higher once. (B) Stage 2 was designed for between 11m and 14m extension. (C) The state government extension of between only 2m and 6m, so proudly sprouted in this newspaper by Scott Stewart (5m), is permanent vandalism that can never be extended again, and robs our future generations of precious water forever. PEDRO, CRANBROOK

Shocked to see Scott Stewart’s staff at pre-poll during a Queensland parliament sitting week. Out of control youth crime, a health system in crisis and unprecedented rain causing damage to our region you would think this mob would be busy. Politics before people. JR, 4810

The retailers complaining about lost revenue caused by illegal chop chop tobacco sales sending them broke need to open their eyes to the future. Smoking in our society has been on the decline for years and eventually virtually no one will smoke anymore so that industry is doomed anyway. Find other revenue streams now as tobacco products will one day end. THOMAS

Tuesday’s paper: Morrison says “there’s no magic pen that makes your wages go up”, Thursday’s paper: “We can’t let Albo get his hands on the magic pen!” It would be great to have a PM with actual principles, and one who doesn’t want to squeeze workers at the hip pocket and pay packet with high inflation and low wages. STEVE, BELGIAN GARDENS

Agree completely with Max Cranbrook from Thursday paper. If police were really concerned they would do a citywide operation and find these people somewhere safe and appropriate to live rather than just pushing the problem around the town. G JONES

For years Phil Thompson has washed his hands of the youth crime issue, telling anyone who would listen that it’s a state matter and that there’s nothing the federal government can do. Now, on the eve of the election, Phil’s had an epiphany and is making announcements about funding for various initiatives aimed at addressing youth crime. Typical Phil – he’s done nothing for three years and now thinks he can make up for it with some pork barrelling. Shame. SCOTT, BELGIAN GARDENS
