Special task for Storm’s Mr Cam-do

- NICK SMART

MELBOURNE Storm coach Craig Bellamy says superstar Cameron Munster could make a surprise switch to fullback to help combat rival Penrith in their Magic Round showdown on Saturday.

With superstar fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen (knee/ hamstring) out for at least a month, Storm have spent the week trialling various players in the No.1 position.

The versatile Nick Meaney has been named at fullback, but a cagey Bellamy said there were various options as they prepare for the Panthers at Suncorp Stadium.

“There’s a couple of them

that trained there when Paps missed a whole heap of time (early in the year),” Bellamy said.

“Munster’s played plenty there as well, so we’ve got options there and we’ve practised a couple of them this week as well. “So it’s nice to have a couple of guys in there that play different positions.”

Munster started his illustrious career at fullback and played a full season at the back in 2016 when club legend Billy Slater was out injured.

He has been a star fiveeighth for a number of years, but his slimmed down frame this year means he’d be better suited for a shift to fullback if needed.

Meaney or Tyran Wishart could play in the halves if Bellamy decided to move the Queensland Origin star.

“He (Munster) has gone there a couple of times this year, so at the end of the day we’re obviously going to start a certain way,” Bellamy said.

“But if that’s not quite working out, we can make some changes.”
