Rollover blocks highway
A TRUCK driver died on the Bruce Highway north of Townsville yesterday.
The man, whose truck rolled near Rollingstone, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bruce Highway remained shut for several hours as the Forensic Crash Unit conducted its investigation.
The man is the eighth person to die on North Queensland roads in 2022, and comes after the death of cricket legend Andrew Symonds on Saturday night.
A TRUCK driver has died on the Bruce Highway north of Townsville after his B-double rolled.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Rollingstone about 10.30am, with the Bruce Highway blocked for at least six hours.
The Forensic Crash Unit was conducting an investigation at the scene into the afternoon.
The crash occurred about 200m south of the Balgal Beach turn-off, near Pace Rd.
Queensland Ambulance Service assessed the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were delays to the highway reopening with the truck recovering the damaged vehicle experiencing issues.
One lane of the Bruce Highway opened to traffic by 7.30pm.

On Saturday night, cricketing legend Andrew Symonds died on Hervey Range Rd at Alice River.
Of the eight deaths this year, two have been on the highway north of Townsville, including i a 69- 6 year- old man at D a m p e r Creek, and 78- year- old motorcyclist John Weber near the Barrett Rd turnoff o to Paluma.
