Plenty in store for North

- TONY RAGGATT

THE OPENING date for Townsville’s first 7-Eleven store has been confirmed.

The doors are expected to open on the new store being built at 4 Market St, Burdell, on June 7.

The world-famous convenience store chain, well known for its supply of the popular Krispy Kreme doughnuts, said the new store was part of an investment into providing the same level of choice and convenience to North Queensland residents that was available to people in metropolitan Brisbane.

7-Eleven Australia area lead north Alan Plews said the company was excited to be recruiting its first local team, which would be central to building the network in the area.

Mr Plews said a locally recruited store manager and assistant store manager had started training, and recruitment was ongoing for store team members.

“We expect that our team across Townsville and Cairns will include more than 100 people, and we are excited to be investing in Far North Queensland,” Mr Plews said.

“Our investment and network growth will provide locals the chance to grow in

their careers as we expand. The opportunity is there also for those who might be looking to shift into our industry from other fields.

“The team members we recruit will be provided with extensive training to deliver an excellent customer experience, so previous work history

in the petrol and convenience industry isn’t a requirement.”

Mr Plews said the company was proud to be investing in the region.

“Our multimillion-dollar commitment to Far North Queensland will see us open approximately 10-15 stores in the next two years,” he said.

“The next store we expect to open is at Bushlands Beach in Townsville and then our first Cairns store will open on Sheridan St by the end of the year. We are continuing to work with landlords and developers to open stores in the right locations to meet the needs of the community.”

7-Eleven Australia is locally owned and operated with more than 700 stores across Victoria, NSW, ACT, Queensland and Western Australia. There are more than 450 family-owned businesses in the 7-Eleven franchise network, employing about 8000 people.
