Charge laid over house fire

- SHAYLA BULLOCH

A TEENAGER has been charged after allegedly setting a Douglas house on fire while a woman was inside.

Police arrested the 18-yearold Wulguru woman on Monday after she allegedly fled the scene of a house fire about 5.25pm. Police will allege the woman deliberately lit a fire inside one of the bedrooms in the house.

A police spokeswoman confirmed another woman was in the back of the house when it was set alight and she was alerted to the fire by smoke alarms.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and police rushed to the scene where they were confronted with a fire at the front of the house.

A QFES spokesman said firefighters controlled the blaze, did a primary search of the house and left the scene about 7.10pm.

It’s understood the fire caused some damage to the bedroom.

The woman allegedly fled the scene, but was tracked down by police and charged with one count of endangering property by fire. She will face court on June 15.
