Thief stole from dead man

- SATRIA DYER-DARMAWAN

A YOUNG unemployed 20year-old man who stole from the estate of a deceased man has faced the Ayr Magistrates Court.

Ty Anthony Scott Murison pleaded guilty to three charges: entering a premises and committing an indictable offence, stealing, and unlawfully entering a vehicle to commit an indictable offence while in company at night.

Police prosecutor Angela Goodwin said the offence occurred on February 9, when Murison entered the agricultural shed with a friend.

Ms Goodwin said Murison and his friend had driven to the location, entered the shed, smashed the driver’s side window of a car and stole a car battery as well as a number of other items, including a CCTV camera.

The court was told the stolen items were put into a ute.

Murison’s solicitor said her client, 20, was unable to find work since leaving school.

She said the crime was not very sophisticated as CCTV footage from the crime showed both defendants holding the camera.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan said Murison was drawn into the offending and didn’t stop his mate.

Ms Keegan ordered Murison to undertake community service for 200 hours, and said that given he was unemployed, he had plenty of time to undertake the order.

No conviction was recorded against him.
