UPGRADE CAUSES OUTAGE

-

TELSTRA customers in the Burdekin who were without mobile phone service from Wednesday morning were unable to make or receive calls until well into Thursday afternoon.

Telstra North Queensland regional general manager Rachel Cliffe said the outage was caused by a 4G upgrade on the telecommunications company’s 40m mobile base station on the Bruce Highway at Ayr.

She said a text message advising residents of the work was sent on May 14.

“Most of our mobile coverage for the township does come from the Ayr base station so there will be an impact,” Ms Cliffe said.

“There’s never a good time to undertake this sort of work but once it is completed, it will mean better mobile services for local residents and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
