Real-life rage over gaming

-

A TEENAGER who smashed his family’s TV because his mother said his little sister deserved to have a turn of the Xbox has faced the Ayr Magistrates Court.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty to contravening a domestic violence order, which was made in July 2020.

Police prosecutor Angela Goodwin said the defendant had damaged the aggrieved’s property in April after the defendant’s mother asked him to let his seven-year-old sister have a turn of the game Fortnite on the Xbox.

“She told the defendant to stop arguing with his sister and a few minutes later she heard the TV smash and saw the dining table chair on the floor,” Ms Goodwin said.

Ms Goodwin said the defendant threw a doll house across the room at the TV, which resulted in the family television no longer working.

Magistrate Viviana Keegan said the incident was scary and heartbreaking for the mother.

No conviction was recorded, however the teen was ordered to pay $1000 in compensation.
