HRUSTIC PROVES SPOT ON

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

FRESH from his Europa League triumph in Seville, Australian playmaker Ajdin Hrustic has set his sights on taking the Socceroos to the World Cup.

Having come on as an extratime substitute, Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hrustic slotted home a penalty in the German club’s 5-4 shootout success over Scottish outfit Rangers on Thursday morning.

“I’m so proud to be able to say I’ve won the Europa League, I’ve got no words,” said the 25-year-old Dandenong product.

Hrustic’s focus quickly switched to next month’s World Cup qualifying playoffs in Qatar. The Socceroos have a do-or-die AFC playoff against the United Arab Emirates on June 8.

A win sees the Roos progress to a sudden-death clash on June 14 against Peru. The winner will advance to the World Cup in Qatar.

“I’m more than 100 per cent sure that we’re going to be able to achieve what we want, and that’s to get to the World Cup,” the Australian star said.
