Game, Set, Match at Giru Riverview Sports Complex
SUNDAY 27 November saw the grand opening of the redeveloped and renamed Giru Riverview Sports Complex by Burdekin Shire Mayor Lyn Mclaughlin.
The Giru Riverview Sports Complex was formerly known as the Giru Tennis Courts.
The redevelopment included resurfacing of the courts, fencing of the facility, installation of lighting and the inclusion of basketball, netball facilities to transform two courts to a multi-purpose sports complex.
Cr Mclaughlin said the opening represented the culmination of almost two years of redevelopment works.
“The redevelopment of the Giru Riverview Sports Complex was an approved project through the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program in partnership with Tennis Queensland, Giru Progress Association and Burdekin Shire Council,” Cr Mclaughlin said.
“The upgrade to the facility is one that has been embraced by the Giru community which was evident at Sunday’s grand opening with a large attendance and where the multisport facility was host to budding tennis and alike.

“This facility is already being well utilised by locals with Cardio Tennis and private tennis coaching lessons being held. There has also been a large uptake in the Children’s Hot Shots program, a group tennis lesson.
“The redevelopment of the facility will encourage residents to access and connect with their community through events and local sport participation.”
The approved redevelopment was made possible thanks to the Australia Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. For more information on the program visit https:// investment.infrastructure.gov. au/.
