TIME TO SHINE FOR DANCING TALENTS
A DAZZLING contingent of more than 800 performers will dance their hearts out in a series of performances at the Townsville Civic Theatre starting this Sunday.
The Townsville Academy of Performing Arts (TAPA) is holding its annual performances featuring dancers from as young as two hitting the stage.
TAPA principal Katrina Sayce said the fun begins this Sunday at 10am with the
Ready Set Dance and Ready set Ballet concert at 10am followed by a junior concert at 1pm featuring performers aged five to seven.
From Thursday, December 8 is the dance school’s main concert called TAPA on Broadway which has four shows including a matinee finishing on December 10.
“For our main concert we are dancing to many different Broadway hits and musicals and introducing a lot of new children to the stage and it is for our students from seven and over,” Mrs Sayce said.
“There will be a whole suite of dance styles ranging from our very small ones which is our Ready Set Dance and Ready Set Ballet right up to our advanced Ballet and Jazz students with Hip Hop, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz Heels, Irish Dancing, Acrobatics and Song and Dance.
“The concerts will be something very special for all the children to remember to get on stage and dance their little hearts out.”
She said the series of concerts is the culmination of the year’s work.
“We start teaching them combinations and teaching them skills so by the time they get to the end of the year they have mastered a few confidently so we can put them in with routines, add combinations into the routines so they feel confident getting on stage and being able to perform at the best of their abilities.”
Tickets for the series of concerts are available from the Ticketshop.
