The Talent Must Go

Tracks - - Marti Paradisis -

It’s one thing to find great surf but you need talented surfers to make it pop off the page. Chippa Wilson gets invited on a lot of trips because he’s easy-going and able to shred in just about anything the ocean throws up. If it’s small and onshore he simply surfs in the sky, unleashing a bag of technical skate-influenced tricks. But he’s more than a 15-trick pony. On this trip he was required to get tubed all day long in some hefty reef barrels. There was no pulling back. “Chippa had no worries on the big day at Frigates,” recalls Ord. “He says he can’t surf bigger waves, but he was taking off and pulling straight in – no problems at all. I knew he was good at airs, but I bet he can charge anything – he’s that good.” Asher Wales was a lesser known commodity, but he stepped right up. “Asher was great to have on board. He surfs amazing and he’s into his design and photography. Both Asher and Chippa were happy to help with any project we wanted to work on. The photographers could ask them anything and they were always into it and happy to help.”
