Con­struc­tion Un­der­way For New SAR Ves­sels

Emer­gency Man­age­ment Vic­to­ria (EMV) has con­firmed that con­struc­tion of a num­ber of new pur­pose-built ves­sels for marine search and res­cue units is un­der­way.

One 12m Cat­e­gory 2 ves­sel be­ing built by Ste­ber­craft In­ter­na­tional will ini­tially be al­lo­cated to Port Fairy Marine Res­cue Ser­vice.

Two 10m Na­iad Cat­e­gory 3A ves­sels are fur­ther be­ing built in Western Aus­tralia by Kirby Marine for Aus­tralian Volunteer Coast Guard St Kilda and Frankston.

The Cat­e­gory 2 ves­sel is on track for com­ple­tion in early Septem­ber while the Cat­e­gory 3A ves­sels are ex­pected to be com­plete in July or early Au­gust.

Con­struc­tion of two 8.5m trail­er­a­ble Na­iad ver­sions started in Fe­bru­ary, with de­liv­ery ex­pected in Septem­ber.

All ves­sels will be fit­ted with a com­pre­hen­sive com­mu­ni­ca­tions and nav­i­ga­tional suite that will in­clude Class A AIS, solid state radar and a high-end sta­bilised FLIR.
