Construction Underway For New SAR Vessels
Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) has confirmed that construction of a number of new purpose-built vessels for marine search and rescue units is underway.
One 12m Category 2 vessel being built by Stebercraft International will initially be allocated to Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service.
Two 10m Naiad Category 3A vessels are further being built in Western Australia by Kirby Marine for Australian Volunteer Coast Guard St Kilda and Frankston.
The Category 2 vessel is on track for completion in early September while the Category 3A vessels are expected to be complete in July or early August.
Construction of two 8.5m trailerable Naiad versions started in February, with delivery expected in September.
All vessels will be fitted with a comprehensive communications and navigational suite that will include Class A AIS, solid state radar and a high-end stabilised FLIR.
