New CEO For AFMA

Wez Norris has been ap­pointed as the new Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of the Aus­tralian Fish­eries Man­age­ment Au­thor­ity (AFMA).

“Mr Norris brings unique ex­per­tise to the role, with strong un­der­stand­ing of Aus­tralia’s fish­eries and the Aus­tralian fish­ing in­dus­try,” said Min­is­ter for Agri­cul­ture David Lit­tleproud.

“He has sig­nif­i­cant ex­pe­ri­ence in fish­eries man­age­ment hav­ing held ex­ec­u­tive po­si­tions in the Pa­cific Is­lands Fo­rum Fish­eries Agency, AFMA and the Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture and Wa­ter Re­sources.

“I am con­fi­dent Mr Norris will pro­vide the lead­er­ship needed to en­sure the on­go­ing good man­age­ment and sus­tain­able use of Com­mon­wealth fish re­sources, a strong com­pli­ance cul­ture to de­ter il­le­gal fish­ing in the Aus­tralian Fish­ing Zone and pri­ori­tis­ing re­search fund­ing to­wards ac­tiv­i­ties that di­rectly ben­e­fit the Aus­tralian fish­ery in­dus­try,” Lit­tleproud added.

The for­mer CEO, Dr James Find­lay, re­signed on in Novem­ber 2018 to take up the po­si­tion of Di­rec­tor of Na­tional Parks. Anna Wil­lock had been act­ing in the role.
