Finair’s biofuelfli­ghts

Finnair launched its first biofuel flights on 5 and 7 August as part of its Push for Change carbon decreasing initiative, with both flights taking off from San Francisco Airport to land in Helsinki, Finland.

The planes were flown with a biofuel mix of 12%, resulting in a reduction of total CO2 emissions for the two flights by approximat­ely 32 tonnes.

Finnair partnered with SKYNRG and World Energy to produce the biofuel, made from used cooking oil in California, while Shell Aviation provided logistics and supply chain support.
