World fleet doubles
THE world’s jet airliner fleet is expected to double over the next 20 years according to international aircraft leasing company Avolon.
Over 51,000 aircraft are expected to be in service by 2036 with 16,000 aircraft to be decommissioned over the same 20-year time period.
The motivating factors for new orders will involve the need to replace ageing models and ensuring craft keep pace with modern technology.
“A total of US$4.3t in additional financing will be required, with US$700b needed over the next five years,” said Avolon head of strategy Dick Forsberg.
