MAR­RIOTT is fac­ing mul­ti­ple law­suits and sev­eral gov­ern­ment in­ves­ti­ga­tions af­ter rev­e­la­tions that the per­sonal de­tails of up to 500 mil­lion cus­tomers have been stolen in a long-term data breach (TD Mon).

Law firm Mor­gan & Mor­gan has re­port­edly sought court ap­proval for a class ac­tion trial in the US state of Mary­land where Mar­riott is head­quar­tered, one of sev­eral ac­tions an­nounced since de­tails of the hack were re­vealed.

Sev­eral in­ves­ti­ga­tions have been launched in re­sponse to the breach, in­clud­ing in­quiries by the FBI in the US and the In­for­ma­tion Com­mis­sioner’s Of­fice in the UK.

Sev­eral US state in­ves­ti­ga­tions are also un­der­way, an­nounced by at­tor­neys gen­eral in New York, Illi­nois, Pennsylvania, Mas­sachusetts and Con­necti­cut.

Stolen data has in­cluded names, ad­dresses, phone num­bers, emails, pass­port num­bers, dates of birth and other de­tails.
