Man­war­ing AFTA Chair­man

EX­PRESS Travel Group CEO Tom Man­war­ing was yes­ter­day elected as the new Chair­man of the Aus­tralian Fed­er­a­tion of Travel Agents (TD break­ing news).

Man­war­ing takes the lead from Mike Thomp­son, who is step­ping down after a decade in the role due to his de­par­ture from Hel­loworld Travel (TD 28 Nov).

The changeover oc­curred at the fi­nal AFTA board meet­ing for the year in Syd­ney yes­ter­day.

While Thomp­son is no longer el­i­gi­ble to be an AFTA Di­rec­tor, he will con­tinue to serve as the AFTA rep­re­sen­ta­tive on the Board of the AFTA Charge­back Scheme.

“I have thor­oughly en­joyed be­ing Chair of AFTA for the past decade and ap­pre­ci­ate the sup­port given to me by fel­low Board Mem­bers and the broader travel in­dus­try,” Thomp­son said.

Man­war­ing has been an AFTA Di­rec­tor since early 2014, and thanked Thomp­son for his out­stand­ing work while Chair­man.

“I look for­ward to sup­port­ing AFTA and the mem­bers go­ing for­ward...I would also like to thank my fel­low Board mem­bers for their sup­port in elect­ing me to the role,” he said.

The next AFTA Board meet­ing is sched­uled for Feb 2019.
