THE next time you com­plain about be­ing seated next to a baby on a flight, just be thank­ful you don’t have to con­tend with a wild pig slurp­ing up your spaghetti bolog­naise.

As air travel gets cheaper, more and more peo­ple are de­cid­ing to take their pets with them when they travel over­seas, with cats and dogs the most com­mon, and goats, pigs and rab­bits also known to hop aboard flights more reg­u­larly.

The prac­tice is be­com­ing pop­u­lar in New Zealand in par­tic­u­lar, with sev­eral pet travel agents telling lo­cal me­dia that busi­ness is “boom­ing”.

In the past month, the ma­jor­ity of NZ pets trav­elled to Aus­tralia, with Mi­lan, Denmark, and Lon­don close be­hind.
