Aloft Dallas Downtown was the brand’s first adaptive re-use project, housed in a historic railroad freight depot. Originally built in 1924 as a Santa Fe Railroad freight terminal and commercial dry goods warehouse, the hotel retains elements of the original structure in its modern, urban design, including buff brick, large windows, structural pillars and high ceilings. Natural materials were also incorporated into the design to help with environmental friendliness, such as cork, sustainable wood veneers and in-shower product dispensers. Additionally, almost 75 percent of the project’s demolition debris was re-used below ground to construct lower-level meeting and ballroom spaces.
