Brrrr the chilly weather has landed and it is keeping most of us holed up indoors, right?

While hand gloves, scarves, hot coffee and ear muffs are the order of the winter blues, June was a month of celebrating gin.

Gin? Yes gin!

The 8th of June was World Gin Month and South Africans also joined in the festivities by celebrating the best of craft gin that the nation’s distillers have to offer.

Everyday is World Gin Day in South Africa simply because gin connoisseurs have a wide selection to choose from when it comes to craft gin. Craft gin comes in all sorts of tastes, colours and bottles.

We tried out three bottles of handcrafted gin delivered to us from

Jorgensen’s and we will share what you can expect when you buy these really cool gins that are selling like hot cakes this winter. And there is no doubt that they will be the perfect toast of summer cocktails!

As an intro, Jorgensen's are a husband and wife team passionate about creating premium handcrafted spirits,

which include the well established Savingnac Potstill Brandy, the Primitiv Vodka, Field of Dreams Absinthe, Naked Lemon limoncello and Jorgensen’s Gin.

Now let’s get on with it.

Wild Rose Fynbos

This is one of the finest gins on the market. NOSE: Bright, crisp and fresh with an uplifting welcome of juniper. PALATE: Juniper to the fore, supported by floral notes and spicy, warm cardamom. Plenty of citrus ‘zing’ complemented by the gingery spiciness of coriander.

FINISH: The earthy dryness of angelica kicks in.

Wild Rose Hibiscus

This pink coloured gin is distilled inhouse using the vapour infusion method and every bottle is waxedsealed by hand, numbered and signed. It is a good cocktail bet.

The Wild Rose Hibiscus gin is vibrant, complex and well-balanced. The fruity blaeberries and rowan berries, floral Rhodiola rosea, and citrus and sweet notes combine with beautiful depth of flavour. It is a very appealing and characterful representation of Wellington were its distilled.

Jorgensens pepper gin
