Rulani tips Motshwari

And lots more..

At times being good enough doesn’t warranty a starting spot for a club player. Olivier Giroud still gets a France national team call up even though his struggling to be part of Frank Lampards Chelsea plans.

The same can be said of Orlando Pirates star player Ben Motshwari. Even though he has been a beacon for club, getting a national team call up has proved elusive.

But his Orlando Pirates mentor Rulani Mokwena is convinced that Ben he is good enough to make a strong challenge for a place in the Bafana Bafana midfield.

Perhaps 2020 might be a Motshwari moments as he has shown the same wool and steel quality that has won him admirers over the years.

Mokwena (who was speaking during his tenure as the Buccaneers interim head coach) has so much confidence in Motshwari’s ability that he has communicated his views to national team coach Molefi Ntseki.

“I speak to coach Molefi Ntseki and I think he knows my stance on that,” he said.

“And he knows how I feel about Ben Motshwari not being in the national team.

“If you ask him he will confirm to you that we’ve discussed Ben Motshwari at length‚ but sometimes these conversations must be left for coach to coach.”

Motshwari was included in the Bafana Bafana provision squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt last year. He was subsequently from the final squad as the coach chose experience over national team rookies.

South Africa have a tight 2020 calendar that include World Cup and Afcon qualifies. Perhaps it might just be the year the doctor ordered for Motshwari’s long awaited debut.

For now, all eyes will be on Molefe to see just how much belief he has for locally based players. Afterall, they are the cream of the local league that grossed a cool billion Rands for the PSL. It proves just how abundant the talent is.
