In a world were bigger is better, Shiraz is the ideal choice. It has dark fruit flavours to compliment its full bodied
We got our hands on the Reserve No 1 Shiraz (2015) and here is our impression. This wine is quiet the celebrity.
These screwcapped wines dials back some of the blackcurrant notes typical of the Paarl region which makes this wine an awesome Shiraz.
This full bodied wine boasts of freshly crashed pepper aromas with hints of cinnamon and red berry juice on the nose.
When you taste Reserve No1, you will be greeted with a punch of flavour that tappers off and then has a spicy peppery note to finish off the Boland Cellar experience.
There is a modest floral component on the back end that recalls savoury ripe fruit.
Slow cold fermentation and longer barrel aging adds both complexity and elegance to this very robust wine. It is an ideal wine for cellaring up to 15 years.
Food pairing
You go wrong with darker meats and exotic spices to bring out the fruit notes of this great wine. Rich red meat dishes such as ox tail will whisk you away.
It is overrally an amazing red wine that I would recommend to any wine lover out there.
